Kazakh government revises forecast for GDP growth for 2009-10 downward

Almaty, June 3, 2008

The Kazakh government has revised downward the forecast for GDP growth in 2009 from 9.2% to 6%, and in 2010 from 8.6% to 5.6%.

The changes and additions made by the government and listed in the resolution on the medium-term fiscal policy for 2008-10 of August 29 2007, were officially published on Tuesday. The adjustments were approved in a document signed by Prime Minister Karim Masimov on May 16 2008.

The forecast for 2008, earlier revised downward to 5.3%, remained unchanged.

In absolute figures, GDP is projected at 15.64 trillion tenge for 2008, 17.74 trillion for 2009 and 20.74 trillion tenge for 2010.

The government revised upward the forecast for world prices for Brent oil in 2008 from $60 to $95 per barrel. The forecast for 2009 and 2010 remained unchanged - $60 per barrel.
