Kazakhstan adjusts its priorities for internal policy (Part 2)

Almaty, June 26

Kazakhstan will adjust its priorities for the internal policy in the light of today's circumstances.

There was a meeting last Tuesday to discuss issues relating to internal policy and ideology. At the meeting the Kazakh president suggested that the previous ideological approaches should be revised and adapted to the new political situation in the republic, Erlan Karin, the head of the internal policy department of the president's administration, said in an interview to the Liter newspaper published on Thursday.

"The revised priorities for Kazakhstan's internal policy are: sustainable development of the nation, strengthening of the Kazakh statehood, unity of the nation and confidence in the future," Karin said.

Nazarbaev guaranteed the invariability of the main state political priorities and confirmed the adherence to the principles of internal political stability, as well as interethnic and interreligious consent.

"However, the president thinks that the new stage of the country and society's development requires expanding and supplementing these basic values," he said.

In particular, "the nation's sustainable development," which "would symbolize that our state and society are looking to the future," will become a new political priority, Karin said.

The second priority is "the strengthening of the statehood," he said. "The strengthening of the statehood should become the core of the national mindset, and the ideology of the statehood should secure mobilization of the society," Karin said.

The third priority - "the unity of the nation" - symbolizes the completion of societal integration, he said. "Strategic tasks of the country's development should be voiced and perceived equally at all social layers," Karin said.

"The fourth priority is to make citizens aware of the future, to form social optimism," he said.

Nazarbaev also called to give up "ideological 'shows' and to look for and find simple and clear forms of consolidating citizens," he said. Ideological work should not deal with the political dimension only, he added.
