Fixed capital investments in Kazakhstan decreased 13.9% to 162.9 billion tenge (current FOREX rate is 148.90/$1) in January 2009, the National Statistics Agency told Interfax-Kazakhstan.
According to statistics, 10 regions saw a growth in investments including Zhambyl region (by 6.8 times), North Kazakhstan (by 5.7 times), South Kazakhstan (by 3.5 times).
Meanwhile investments decreased in six regions, including Astana (80.5%).
As compared to the same period of 2008, in January 2009 investments considerably grew in the following sectors: manufacturing industry (by 2.4%), transport and communications (by 8.5%), healthcare and rendering of social services (by 0.4).
In Kazakhstan, the population of which tops 15.7 million people, there are 14 regions and two large cities - Almaty and Astana.
